Establishing Citywide Inventory Under an Aggressive Timeframe

GIS for City of Albany Parking Authority

MJ was responsible for the collection and development of a GIS inventory and audit of regulatory parking signs and on-street parking spaces within the City of Albany. This extensive effort included more than 50,000 signs and spaces along 230 street miles.

To complete this project under an aggressive timeframe, MJ utilized mobile LiDAR to collect 3D point cloud data and 360-degree panoramic photos along city streets. Using this data, MJ’s GIS team developed the parking inventory.

The inventory included the city's regulatory parking sign locations as exact point coordinates, and over twenty attributes for each sign such as the type of regulation and sign condition. Based on the parking signs, a block-by-block count of on-street parking spaces was performed using automated programming routines built by MJ.
